About Katy Beh Jewelry
ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT
Katy Beh (pronounced “Bay”) Jewelry is all about creating gorgeous handmade jewelry you can’t find anywhere else. My jewelry features rich 22k gold and vivid gemstones. Every piece is one of a kind, made one at a time entirely by me using the ancient craft of classical goldsmithing. It is ever-changing as I discover new vibrant gemstones for women craving fine jewelry that is both unique and fun.
I’m Katy Beh and I launched Katy Beh Jewelry in 2011 to give women with laissez les bons temps rouler fine jewelry they'll want to wear day after day. Don't worry if your Cajun French is rusty, it just means "let the good times roll" (pronounced "Lay-say le bon tom roo-lay").
Before Katy Beh Jewelry, I had a successful career in selling designer fine jewelry.
I owned Katy Beh Contemporary Jewelry; a boutique of artisan and designer fine jewelry on New Orleans’ infamous Magazine Street. Although I had a fancy diploma from Rhode Island School of Design, upon graduating it wasn't time yet for me to be a professional artist. I still had to pay for that art degree.
When the craving to make my own jewelry hit me, it didn't come with a road map. I had a busy store and a young son. I couldn’t ignore the wheels turning in my head. I still had my jewelry tools and bench from college buried under boxes in my office. I had the gear to get started, but not the time.
My father passed when I was young and every so often I would dream about him.
He encouraged me in a dream: telling me to move my jewelry bench out into the showroom where everyone could see me create. So, I did just that. However, it quickly became clear that Dad wasn’t entirely right. Making jewelry required concentration and long stretches of uninterrupted time. My bench, now in my showroom, started to gather dust.
Determined, I went to a huge gem show in Arizona. There, I collected a vivid assortment of loose stones. Once back in New Orleans, playing with them on my desk made me smile. The gems looked like Mardi Gras to me. The colorful costumes and floats parading down St. Charles Avenue. Celebrating the necessity of fun and pleasure under the live oak trees...marching bands, blaring and grand mansions bursting with revelers and grins.
My vision to make the things I wish existed came together at that moment.
I closed my store within two months and registered for classes in New York at the Jewelry Arts Institute. There I would learn a method of making gold jewelry I had admired for years. Classical goldsmithing with its rich materials and time-honored craft spoke to me in all kinds of languages.
We can all agree jewelry that is as precious and unique as the memories they are celebrating is hard to find.
And when it came to fine jewelry that was at once special; beautifully made; intentionally fun and unique; I didn’t want to make jewelry that was only worn on special occasions or looked like what everyone else had. So, I decided to create heirloom quality jewelry for women like me. Strong, independent, easy going and in charge of herself. But most importantly, a woman enjoying her life. As my father called me when I was just a child, "a formidable woman."
Katy Beh Jewelry began with a passion for color, beautifully made treasures, precious family keepsakes and a love affair with my beloved New Orleans.
- New Orleans’ lush palette, her vibrant Mardi Gras and enthusiasm for fun inspire the color and spirit of my jewelry.
- Her iconic architecture fuels my passion for heirloom design and preserving artisanal craft.
- My penchant for easy elegance motivates me to design pieces that are both luxurious and effortless to wear.
- The elegant patina of time and practice; the contrast of decadence and humility...all fuel my unique jewelry vision.
- Festive costuming; food, music...you see it, right?
Creating special jewelry that you wear and pass down is now my passion. I personally design and create all my pieces. I’m so handmade, I even alloy the gold I use to make the sheet and wire used in my designs. My collectors visit my website and home studio where I help them select the perfect one of a kind piece and make special custom designs for them with love.
I make every piece as if it were for ME. And I am picky.
Now, Katy Beh Jewelry has become an exclusive New Orleans treasure. My jewelry has been featured in regional publications; The Times Picayune, Gambit, and St. Charles Avenue Magazine. I have also exhibited at the world famous New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
Katy Beh Jewelry brings me so much joy, and I want to return the love with incredible jewelry that is YOU. It is absolutely worth it. Let me help you find the perfect piece.
