Jewelry Care
Katy Beh Jewelry is especially hand crafted to last for many years to come.
All precious jewelry will eventually look dull if proper care has not been taken.
Always protect your jewelry from knocks, scratches, chemicals, sunlight and heat/cold to minimize these effects.
Most pieces can be cleaned with a drop of a gentle dish detergent diluted in warm water and an old soft toothbrush. Dip the tooth brush in the solution and gently brush your piece. Rinse lightly in warm water and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Make sure to visit Katy every so often for a studio cleaning of your jewelry. Likewise, have Katy check your jewelry from time to time to inspect the settings, stringing and clasps.
Care Instructions
- Avoided submerging your jewelry in water. This includes washing your hands.
- Remove jewelry when showering or bathing. This is particularly important when on the beach, in the sea or in chlorinated water.
- Avoid wearing your jewelry when doing physical work such as working out, gardening or cleaning.
- Never expose your jewelry to household cleaning products, especially bleach and highly reactive solutions.
- Avoid spraying perfumes and hair products on your jewelry as it jeopardizes the integrity of the material.
- Remove your jewelry when applying makeup and creams to avoid the residue getting into the texture or gemstone setting.
- Beauty products and makeup residue will dull the luster of your jewelry and is very difficult to remove from some gemstones and beading.
- Keep your jewelry away from extreme temperatures
General Jewelry Cleaning
- A soft, lint-free cloth is an effective way to keep your jewelry looking fresh and lustrous.
- Most pieces can be cleaned with a drop of a gentle dish detergent diluted in warm water and an old soft toothbrush. Dip the tooth brush in the solution and gently brush your piece. Rinse lightly in warm water and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Do not use abrasive materials.
- Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean metal as they can cause scratching.
- Do not use silver cleaning products of any kind (including cloths and paste).
- Do not use gold cleaning cloths.
- Do not have your 22k gold jewelry polished by a jeweler.
- Do not use commercial jewelry cleaning products claiming "safe for gold jewelry."
Gemstones
Gemstones are all on a different hardness scale. Depending on the gemstone, some can be more sensitive to scratches. Diamond is the strongest followed by sapphire, ruby. If a minor scratch does occur, it can be polished out in most cases.
- Since many gemstones are quite delicate, hot water, harsh chemicals and cleaners should be avoided at all times.
- I advise cleaning your precious stones with a drop of a gentle dish detergent diluted in warm water and an old soft toothbrush.
- Very porous stones such as pearls, turquoise and emeralds should be cleaned using an untreated, dry, soft cloth only.
- Do not use any abrasive materials including tissue paper or paper towels to clean gemstones as they can cause scratching.
