“There will be a few times in your life when all your instincts will tell you to do something, something that defies logic, upsets your plans, and may seem crazy to others. When that happens, you do it. Listen to your instincts and ignore everything else. Ignore logic, ignore the odds, ignore the complications, and just go for it.”
Judith McNaught, Remember When
I have a habit of getting in my own way every so often. In fact, Lizzy (my Lizard Brain) has been running the show for the last several years. The limbic system (home to our sneaky little amygdalae) is frequently called our lizard brain because it is about all a lizard has for brain function. It is in charge of fight, flight, feeding, fear, freezing-up, and fornication. (Lots of F-word’s, eh?)
However, there come points in our lives where we need to poo or get off the pot.
Thanks, Mom.
This summer I did both.
I took a ginormous Komodo dragon leap and have a super cool new studio, new dog and a view. I feel happy, safe and strong...and pumped to be able to now give 100% to my passions: making jewelry and raising my son.
Be da foo.

I’ve had this John Burroughs quote scrolling on my screen saver since 1998. I first saw it in Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way. It’s a get-off-your-ass book for creatives who find themselves stuck in an artist’s block.
