I use only 22 karat yellow gold for my original designs.

You may wonder, what’s the big deal with that?

I'm such an old-school jewelry maker...I even make my own gold.

22k yellow gold is an alloy of (left to right) pure copper, 24k gold and fine silver.

Katy Beh Jewelry 22k yellow goldThe first step is heating the pure gold in a charcoal block. Once molton, the fine silver and pure copper is added.

After sufficiently heated to be thoroughly blended, a cooled ounce of newly alloyed 22k yellow gold fits in the palm of my hand.

Live Gold Alloying Demo
Date: November 25, 2017
Time: 1pm and 3pm – Open Studio 12pm to 4pm
Location: 1326 Jefferson Avenue

22k gold is the most luxurious alloy of pure (24 karat) gold. It's signature rich yellow color sets it apart from lower karat golds used in mass produced jewelry. Not only that, almost all the jewelry made these days is cast. But not 22k jewelry. It is always hand fabricated. The inherent weight and density gained from being hand wrought gives 22k yellow gold jewelry strength, weight and unsurpassed beauty.

On Small Business Saturday, I will alloy 22k gold from pure 24 karat by blending the gold with pure copper & fine silver. Then, I'll roll & draw the ingot into sheet and/or wire needed to build my designs.

My jewelry making techniques are totally old-school handmade. I do not use wax models or pre-made molds; I hand fabricate everything. My original designs are created with the timeless artistry of classical goldsmithing; a tradition of centuries old techniques.

I can't wait to show you the ancient craft of alloying gold on Saturday, November 25 at 1pm and 3pm. during my Open Studio (12pm to 4pm) on Small Business Saturday!
